What types of grants are available?

Students may qualify for grants such as the Federal Pell Grant (up to $7,395) and the PA State Grant (PHEAA) (up to $5,750). Grants don’t have to be repaid, making them one of the best ways to reduce the overall cost of your education.

Are there tax credits for education?

Another form of assistance available to students is the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This federal tax credit—worth up to $2,500—may be available to students who have paid tuition or other qualifying education expenses. It can help reduce the overall cost of college by providing a credit on your federal tax return.

Free tax preparation through the LTM VITA program is available to Harcum students at the Coatesville Enrollment Office.

Can my employer help pay for college?

Many employers offer tuition reimbursement programs—sometimes covering a large portion of tuition costs. Ask your employer if this benefit is available, or keep it in mind when looking at new job opportunities.

Do I need to take out loans?

After applying for scholarships, grants, and other aid, you may still need federal student loans. Loans can be an affordable way to finance your education, with repayment beginning only after you leave school. There are also flexible repayment plans available. You can explore your options using the Loan Simulator

When should I complete the FAFSA?

We recommend completing the FAFSA as early as possible. First-time applicants should apply before May 1 to maximize their financial aid and be eligible for the PA State Grant. Even after that date, you can still receive financial aid.
